Invest in High-Quality Bedding
If you do nothing else to create a cosy Airbnb make sure you invest in high-quality bedding. Comfortable mattresses, choices of pillows of varying firmness, along with appropriate sheets, and duvets.
Offering sheets and duvets of varying thicknesses will mean your guests can snuggle down with as many or as few sheets and layers as they see fit. Providing extra blankets in storage is a good way of making sure your guests have enough bedding without overwhelming them by adding them all to the bedrooms.
This will make a huge difference in the overall comfort level of your guests. Many people will rent your Airbnb for it’s location – tourists who will be out sight seeing most of the day, and after a long day exploring, knowing they are coming home to a restful and cosy night in your Airbnb will be hugely appreciated. Knowing there is a comfortable bed waiting for them is great for peace of mind, especially for those who worry about being away from their own bed.
A good night’s sleep sets up Airbnb guests for their next day or adventure or the next leg of their trip.
Add Personal Touches
Airbnb offer a great opportunity for hosts to make a unique living space for their guests and one way to create a cosy airbnb is to add as many personal touches as you can.
When I say personal touches, I don’t mean photos of yourself all around the home! I mean personal touches such as local artwork, extra cosy blankets for the living areas or decorative accents that add a little something extra to an other bare wall or sofa. This will help guests feel more comfortable and at ease during their stay.
Adding a few unexpected extras for your guests could also get you off on the right foot with your guests and with better first impressions, comes better reviews and ultimately this will help with future bookings.
In our case, we like to add some local food and drink to a little mini-hamper in the kitchen to welcome our guests. It’s alway good to promote local produce when you can – again this helps to create a cosy Airbnb experience because it feels homely and boutique.
Another option along these lines is to place some chocolates or luxury soaps on the pillows of your bedrooms. It’s such a great look and feel and when trying to create a cosy Airbnb space.
Be careful this doesn’t contradict any rules you might have about eating upstairs!
Provide Basic Amenities
It is often over-looked, but making sure to provide basic amenities, such as toiletries, towels, and a hairdryer will go a long way to helping you create a cosy Airbnb. Simple things like this will help guests feel more at home during their stay. If you have a kitchen in your Airbnb space, make sure it is well-stocked with basic cooking supplies, such as pots, pans, and utensils. This will allow guests to prepare meals during their stay.
Offering instant tea or coffee options is one less thing that your guests have to consider bringing or buying on arrival. It won’t cost much for a host to provide this, and at the same time offers a welcoming feel to your Airbnb. Nothing like a hot drink to bring a little bit of cosy to your life!
Add Warm Lighting
Soft and Warm Bulbs can really help with the cosy feel for your Airbnb. Opt for light bulbs with warm color temperatures, typically between 2700K and 3000K on the Kelvin scale. These bulbs emit a soft, yellowish light that mimics the warmth of natural light, creating a cosy and relaxing ambiance.
Instead of relying solely on overhead lighting, incorporate multiple light sources to create a layered effect. This could include table lamps, floor lamps, string lights, or even wall sconces. By having different light sources at different heights and locations, you can create a warm and visually appealing atmosphere.
Install dimmer switches for your lights whenever possible. Dimmers allow you to adjust the brightness of the lights, providing flexibility and control over the ambiance. Guests can customize the lighting to suit their mood and preferences, whether they want a brighter space for reading or a softer glow for relaxation. Cosy!
Candles add a touch of romance and cosiness to any space. Candles obviously come with added fire risk, so be careful and take the right precautions if you are offering candles with naked flames.
Provide Entertainment Options
Provide entertainment options for guests, such as books, board games, and a TV. This will give guests something to do during their downtime.
Games that are likely to be familiar can invoke a ‘home-from-home’ feeling and a nice activity on a wet day or cold night. Family card games like Uno, or the classics such as chess, checkers or Monopoly (if you can avoid the fights!) are great for everyone to enjoy together. Soft toys for the children are great for a cosy bedtime.
Offering books or magazines and a soft seat with plenty of blankets and pillows is a great way to help create a cosy Airbnb. Imagine the comfort and luxury of settling down in the warmth and comfort and letting the world pass you by with a great book.
Now you know how to create that perfect cosy vibe, here are some mistakes to absolutely avoid!
